About the flag of Aquitaine

The flag and coat of arms of the French region of Aquitaine is a yellow lion on a plain-red background. The blason (heraldic description) of the arms would be: Gules, a lion passant guardant Or, armed and langued Azure.

It is based on the historical (early 12th century) coat of arms of the Angevins, as Aquitaine was part of their "Angevin Empire" in the 12th century.
