The flag of Drenthe was adopted on February 19, 1947.
The colours of the flag (red and white) are the traditional Saxon colours and also those of the Archbishop of Utrecht by whom Drenthe was governed in the past.
The six stars represent the six ancient regions (dingspil) and the castle is a reference to the city Coevorden from where the province has been governed for a long time.
Most mass-produced flags are commonly 150x90cm / 5x3' or 90x60cm / 3x2', which will often vary from the official size ratio. We now offer a custom-manufactured official size option for our many of our flags.
